Nonsense is self-definable. Unfinished things stacked where you can see them, a voice in your head with opinions about all of it. “Cool Night” by Paul Davis on a loop for two hours because it played once in the supermarket. A mosquito. In the house. In October.
None of it makes sense, and all of it feels heavy.
Somewhere in the middle of it, the wins go missing. You’ve had them and on a good day you could list them. On a nonsense day you can’t find a single one. It is hard. I asked Will to Power me. He said nah, not today.
So I built a chess game for kids with AI, in an afternoon, because I wanted to finish something. I wanted to watch a thing go from nothing to done and see it on a screen. It doesn’t feed anything. It doesn’t up my visibility. It doesn’t increase my connections…but it works.
It’s funny what counts as a win depending on the day. Some weeks it takes a chess game for kids, some weeks it’s finally catching the mosquito. You can know every true thing about yourself and still not see it on a nonsense day. That track in our heads isn’t always a song we like, or a song we picked and some days you can’t hand yourself the win, but someone else can.
That’s the best thing about the women in this group. You get on a call and say, I built a chess game, and someone says, wait, you built what? Suddenly it’s a thing you did. Or you say you didn’t get much done, and someone tells you the win today is knowing what the next thing is
Nobody has handed mine back yet. So I’m saying it out loud, which is usually how that starts.
There’s probably one sitting in your week too, waiting on someone to point at it.
Bring yours to one of our calls. Someone will point at it.
